C.R. BARD is a medical device manufacturer with 20 plants located in the United States and around the world. C.R. BARD is one of the largest medical device manufacturers in the world. Understanding the need to reduce their energy costs, while also increasing their electrical efficiency standards, they chose to undertake an energy efficiency project with Energy Integrated Solutions at three of their Georgia facilities. This project was completed in 2011. Since this installation, EIS has successfully undertaken 11 other C.R. Bard sites in the USA, Mexico and Asia.
The figures below summarize a project whose largest element was a comprehensive Lighting upgrade at one of the Covington, GA sites, which was projected to save ~15% of overall electric utility expenditure. The Lighting improvements were combined with several other measures addressing other sub-systems, HVAC and refrigeration being the largest two. These other measures yielded far greater than the initial projections predicted.
Total Energy Cost Reduction: 26.2% 19.96%
Payback Period: 34.9 mos 26.7 mos
Static and Dynamic Power Quality Treatments; Plant wide Lighting upgrades; Cooling System controls and refrigerant lubricant; Energy Recovery Units on HVAC airflow.
Annual Environmental Benefits
3,288,430 lbs CO2
1,223 barrels of oil
928 tons of coal
24,829 lbs of SO2
Equivalent to removing 311 vehicles
Jason Pertoso, Plant Manager:
“The team was very responsive during the entire time we all worked together. The results in savings, carbon footprint reduction, increased electric capacity, and power quality improvement have been outstanding. The entire team here in Georgia has been very pleased with this entire project.”
